Tearing the Social Fabric of East Jerusalem:
Israel's Wall and Palestinian Education. Palestinian Ministry of
State for Jerusalem
Affairs, 2006.
A report by the Palestinian Ministry of State for
Jerusalem Affairs on the effect of Israel's Separation Wall on the
education of Palestinian children of Jerusalem residents. The report
reveals how children caught on the West Bank side of the Wall are
forced to cross Qalandya checkpoint everyday, while those on the Jerusalem side of the Wall are forced to leave their
schools in Ramallah as they risk losing their Jerusalem identity cards otherwise.
Conversely, many Palestinian teachers are no longer issued the
permits to teach in East Jerusalem schools, creating a shortage of
teachers in East Jerusalem while
the student population is rising.
